Phoenix for the Family’s
The Emperor’s New Clothes
Hoboken and Jersey City actors shine in Phoenix Theatre Ensemble’s The Emperor’s New Clothes. Douglas Santiago, who grew up in Hoboken, plays the flashy and flamboyant Emperor. Paige O’Malley, who plays one of the swindlers trying to put one over on the vain Monarch, is a Jersey City resident and a local celebrity with Hoboken children thanks to her weekly puppet show with Puppetonia at Symposia Book Store. Laura DiCerto, who works at Wiley and has graced the stage for years at Hoboken’s Hudson Theatre Ensemble, plays Glum one of the Emperor’s apple-polishing followers. Another Hudson Theatre Ensemble favorite, featured player and Hoboken resident Florence Pape, plays Grim the Emperor’s number one assistant. Follow these New Jersey players across the river to story land in New York’s Lower East Side for the hilariously and family-friendly, The Emperor’s New Clothes.
Does this crown clash? Can I wear a white robe after Labor Day? Does this scepter go with my jewels? Does it really matter? Find out if substance will rule over style in this delightful reimagining of the beloved Hans Christian Andersen fairytale The Emperor’s New Clothes, with original music by Ellen Mandel.
