The African Library Project, ‘ALP’ partners with Peace Corps volunteers to create libraries in African schools and villages. Ariel Simons, the 23-year-old sister of Hoboken resident Rachel Simons, is currently serving in the Peace Corps and living in Lesotho, an impoverished country within the territory of South Africa.

Simons has made a two-year commitment to the cause, and currently works in a school teaching young people basic reading and writing skills, as well as promoting awareness issues such as malnutrition, sex education, and safe drinking water. She is starting a project to create the first-ever Moyeni High School Library in Quthing, Lesotho, Africa.

Family members are supporting the project from the United States by gathering 1,000 books by Nov.12th and raising $500 to ship the books to Lesotho for the new library. The family is collecting used/new Kindergarten through 6th grade books, such as picture, reference, and early readers.

To donate, contact Ariel’s sister, Rachel Simons to schedule a donation (RachelSimons@nullgmail.com)
