Weehawken Free Summer Concerts on the Hudson

SUMMER CONCERTS ON THE HUDSON 2012, free outdoor concert series on Weehawken waterfront, begins June 27th

Weehawken, NJ (June 11, 2012) – An eclectic program of summer concerts returns to the Weehawken waterfront as the Hudson Riverfront Performing Arts Center, Inc. (HRPAC) presents Summer Concerts on the Hudson 2012 beginning Wednesday, June 27th at 7:00 PM. This series of free evening concerts will feature top artists from diverse genres, including Motown, Rock, Bluegrass, Country Rock, Zydeco, Brazilian, Latin Jazz, Big Band and more.

“We pride ourselves on bringing artists of exceptional talent to our venue,” said Bruce Sherman, HRPAC’s executive director. “Many of the artists this season have won Grammy Awards and other major music awards. And if that’s not enough, the setting is magical. It’s a fantastic experience to see and hear great music framed against the backdrop of the magnificent Manhattan skyline.” The public is requested to bring a lawn chair or blanket and encouraged to pack a picnic and enjoy the pastoral setting of Lincoln Harbor Park.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27 – Dr. K’s Motown Revue This outstanding band of instrumentalists and singers makes you want to sing and dance along with every hit song they perform. The Motown Sound has left its mark on the history of American music and is indelibly stamped on the hearts and souls of those who experienced it. And it is currently making an impact on younger generations around the world.

Dr. K’s Motown Revue has played marquee venues like B.B. Kings, the Jones Beach Theater, and Mohegan Sun. Join this seasoned group of musicians for a happy journey back to the prime time of the Supremes, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and more.

WEDNESDAY, July 18th – Mountain Heart Mountain Heart is one of the most popular and versatile Bluegrass and Country Rock bands out of Nashville. The group and its band members have either won or been nominated for Grammy, Country Music, and Bluegrass Music awards. They have appeared on the revered stage of the Grand Ole Opry in excess of 100 times and have shared the stage with musical superstars including Lynyrd Skynyrd, Merle Haggard, Alison Krauss, Levon Helm, and John Fogerty, among many others.

WEDNESDAY, August 1st – Terrance Simien & The Zydeco Experience For more than two decades, Grammy award winning Zydeco master, Terrance Simien, eighth generation Louisiana Creole, has been sharing his incredible talents and joyous Zydeco musical traditions with the world. Leading his Zydeco Experience Band, Simien has become one of the most respected and internationally recognized touring and recording artists in Roots music today. He has performed over 5,000 concerts, toured millions of miles to over 40 countries and reached at least a million people during his eventful 25 year career.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15th – Cyro Baptista’s Beat the Donkey Cyro Baptista, one of the world’s greatest percussionists, has created this one-of-a-kind, madcap, and hugely entertaining musical entertainment incorporating percussion, tap dance, Samba, Jazz, Rock, and Funk. When Cyro and Beat the Donkey take the stage, fun, humor, and surprises invariably follow.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29th – BANDAGRANDE: The Big Band Theory Led by bandleader, composer, multi-instrumentalist and two-time Grammy nominee, Hector Martignon, this eighteen-piece big band fuses a wide variety of music, including Latin Jazz, Straight-ahead Jazz, and Classical. Special guest for this concert will be Grammy Award winning vibraphone great, Dave Samuels (Caribbean Jazz Project, Spyro Gyra).

Performances take place at Lincoln Harbor Park and begin at 7:00 p.m. Rain dates, if necessary, will be the following night after each scheduled performance.
