The City of Hoboken continues to urge residents with the ability to do so to leave Hoboken before the arrival of Hurricane Irene. This is a very serious storm, and the City thanks residents for taking the storm seriously. All municipal parking garages are at capacity. For those residents who cannot leave Hoboken, a shelter will be open at 9am on Saturday, August 27th at the Wallace School, located at 1100 Willow Avenue.
In order to allow for the staging of buses, there will be no parking permitted on Saturday and Sunday around the Wallace School on the north side of 11th Street and south side of 12th Street between Willow and Clinton as well as the west side of Willow Street and east side of Clinton Street between 11th and 12th. In addition, no parking will be permitted on the east side of Washington Street between 10th and 12th Streets, on River Terrace between 5th and 6th Streets and on 5th Street between Hudson Street and River Terrace.
Residents needing transportation to the shelter can go to designated bus pickup locations at 3rd and Jackson, 1st and Bloomfield, 5th and Willow, and 12th and Hudson. Buses will pick up residents at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, and 6pm and transport them to the Wallace School. If the shelter reaches capacity, residents will be transported by bus to shelters in Union City.
Residents going to the shelter may bring medication, a small toiletry bag, clothing for up to 3 days, and 3 days of baby supplies including diapers and formula.
Residents who wish to volunteer with emergency efforts are asked to go to the Municipal Courtroom in City Hall at 8am on Saturday, August 27th. Please bring a fully charged cell phone and phone charger.
