Lunar Mania, Total Eclipse at Liberty Science Center Sunday, Sept. 27th

Lunar Mania, Total Eclipse
Liberty Science Center Sunday, Sept. 27th
7:00-10:47 pm, September 27

Catch the only total lunar eclipse that will be visible on the East Coast for the next
two years! When the moon travels into Earth’s shadow, its entire visible surface will
appear light red. As astronomy enthusiasts and lovers of lunacy, we at LSC cannot
wait to see this spectacular moon and to share the experience with you.
The Center’s exhibits will be closed at this after-hours event. Here are just some of
the festive activities planned for Lunar Mania, the night of the eclipse:

  • See a one-night-only showing of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon laser show in our Science Theater.
  • Savor a Rocket Dog, some Flying Saucer Sliders, or a Moon Pie. Our Cafe will be open!
  • When the totality phase of the eclipse begins at 10:11 pm, toast the moon with a Milky Way Martini or some Rocket Fuel Sangria. This after-hours event includes a Space Bar!
  • View the moon through telescopes on our patio or lawn. (Bring your own telescope, if you have one.)
  • Learn the science behind the total lunar eclipse.
  • Bringing the kids along? We will have plenty of fun for them, too!
  • See and touch real moon rocks.
  • Race giant, inflated globes in our HuMoon Globe races.
  • Take the Lunar Egg Drop engineering challenge.
  • Learn how craters are made, and make some!
  • Join the Apollo lander drone challenge.
  • View the constellations of the night sky in StarLab.
  • Enjoy face-painting, crafts, moon-and-stars-themed StoryTime, and more.

Weather watch: If clouds should obscure the view from the Center, we will still
be able to view the eclipse via a live feed in one of our theaters.
Admission to Lunar Mania is $10 per person; $5 for LSC members. Seating is limited
in our theaters, and tickets are on sale first come, first served. Purchase tickets
at www.lsc.org/lunar-mania. Members, to reserve your discounted tickets, call
