Just like love, preparing food sustains and connects. Novice cooks and gourmets will learn to create delicious appetizers, main courses, and desserts at Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Continuing Education classes throughout February. Each class will provide attendees an opportunity to learn to prepare hors d’ oeuvres and treats at home for family and friends.
Each class will be held in the kitchens of the HCCC Culinary Arts Institute (CAI), recognized as the number six culinary arts program in the U.S. by Best Choice Schools. The CAI is located at 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City, just two blocks from the Journal Square PATH Transportation Center. Individuals can register online or by calling 201-360-4262. The “Valentine’s Date Night” class will be held on Friday, February 8, from 6 to 10 p.m. It’s said that couples who cook together strengthen their relationships. The evening will begin with a glass of champagne. Attendees will work alongside their valentines to create a flavorful dinner paired with wine, plus a delectable, molten lava cake. The “Fresh Mozzarella Cheese Making” class will be held on Saturday, February 9, from 12 to 4 p.m. The class will include a demonstration of the mozzarella-making process from start to finish. The “Chocolate Lovers” class will be held on Saturday, February 16, from 12 to 4 p.m. The versatility of chocolate adds to its worldwide popularity. It can be drizzled, poured, or flaked into desserts and entrees. Made from cacao beans, chocolate is packed with antioxidants. The “Dumplings and Wontons” class will be held on Saturday, February 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. Whether they’re pan-fried, steamed, or boiled, dumplings are a favorite Asian dish with a thick skin that can be eaten with vinegar dip, soy sauce, or chili sauce. Wontons have a thinner skin, are smaller in size and often served in broth. Attendees will learn to create these delicious foods with confidence. Cost is $65 per person.
