Who: Students living in Hoboken in grades 6 to 12 can register to be a part of the Hoboken Public Library’s Girls Who Code Club.
What: Girls Who Code is a national non-profit working to close the gender gap in technology. With support from student volunteers at Stevens Institute of Technology, the Hoboken Public Library will be hosting a FREE after-school program for 6th-12th grade girls to join our sisterhood of supportive peers and role models and use computer science to change the world.
Our middle and high school Clubs encourage girls to impact their community in a positive way through code. Girls are able to engage in fun and simple online coding tutorials, build community through interactive activities, and learn about inspiring role models. The girls then work in teams to build a culminating Girls Who Code Project, where they use coding skills to solve a real world problem they care about.
Where: The Club will take place at the Main Branch of the Hoboken Public Library at 500 Park Avenue.
When: The Club will take place every Monday from March 11th to May 13th (2019) from 4:00 PM to 5:30. The Club will run for a total of 10 sessions. Students who register for the Club should commit to attending as many of these sessions as possible.
Why: Computing is where jobs will be in the future, but less than 1 in 5 computer science graduates are women. The Hoboken Public Library and Girls Who Code are looking to empower the students of Hoboken with the skills they will need to be successful in the college and the workplace while building self-confidence and camaraderie.
