9/11 Hoboken remembers: Moderated Discussion and Oral History Event Set for Sept. 14

Public invited to Moderated discussion and oral History event set for Sept. 14:
"9/11 Hoboken remembers: How We responded on an unthinkable day"

On Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m., the entire community is invited to "9/11: Hoboken Remembers," a moderated discussion and oral history event, presented by the "9/11: Hoboken Remembers" Organizing Committee, at All Saints Church. The event is supported by the Hoboken Historical Museum, Hoboken Public Library and All Saints Church.

"As Hoboken marks the 10th anniversary of 9/11, we are planning a program that will unveil fresh stories of how our city came together and coped on that unimaginable day," said Sandy O'Connor Carey, chair of the organizing committee. O'Connor Carey's first husband Keith, a Hoboken resident, was killed in the 9/11 attacks.

"Our panel represents individuals whose roles in the community challenged them to respond to unique needs here--ones directly related to the unfolding crisis across the river," she added. "I think it's an appropriate time for us to gain a broad perspective of what happened in Hoboken a decade ago on September 11. The panel will include accounts from vastly different vantage points, from the mayor to the corner bartender."

Hoboken's Diana B. Henriques, New York Times senior financial writer and author, will moderate the discussion. In addition to former Mayor David Roberts and Ann Wycherley, a bartender at the once-popular Duffy's Tavern, the panel will include Rick Evans, who was on duty as incident commander at St. Mary's Hospital, and the Rev. Laurie Wurm, who was Parish Missioner for All Saints Church, among others.

"Henriques is a veteran interviewer who will engage the panelists in a thought-provoking conversation that should provide new insights for people who were in Hoboken on 9/11, as well as for those who have moved here since then," O'Connor Carey said. "We hope to gain a deeper understanding of how our city responded as a community." The event is free and open to the public. The proceedings will be recorded as an oral history project.
