While cities across the country cancelled Easter Egg Hunts due to unruly parents, Hoboken hosted a hugely successful Spring Fling Egg Hunt on Saturday to the delight of more than 500 families.
Families showed up in droves to the beautiful Hudson County Columbus Park on Clinton Street to stroll through the Spring Farm, enjoy photos with the Easter Bunny and compete in the “Guess the Number of Jelly Beans” Contest, Bunny Hop Race and Shaky Egg Race.
Like other Egg Hunt organizers, the Hoboken Family Alliance had encountered similar challenges in recent years in which some children didn’t find any eggs, leaving them in tears, during what should be a happy and fun event.
Last year, however, HFA reformatted the Egg Hunt using a Spring Farm theme to help curb a “get-them-before-they’re-gone” mentality among egg hunters. With the Spring Farm, children of all ages are able to flow through the farm for up to 15 minutes and collect as many eggs as they want. Children then exchange their eggs for a goody bag. The eggs are rotated back into to the farm. More than 2,000 eggs were distributed throughout the farm every few minutes.
HFA would like to thank Hudson County Parks, including Freeholder Anthony Romano for his support and donation of a boy and girl bikes as the Grand Prize for the “Guess the Number of Jelly Beans” Contest and park staff Al Stone, who maintains the park daily and keeps it clean and safe for our enjoyment. A special thanks to the students of Stevens Institute of Technology and members of APO fraternity for their endless help.
HFA would also like to thank Super Soccer Stars and those who donated the fun-filled items in the goody bags: Annie’s Homegrown Bunny Grahams, Ben & Jerry’s, Boogie Wipes, Edgewater Pediatric Dentistry, Nordic Naturals, Pirate Booty!, Popchips, Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices, Rita’s Ice and Snikiddy. Girl Scout Troop 12402 were also on hand to sell cookies.
And finally, we’d like to thank our members and all of the families that came out to support the Spring Fling Egg Hunt. Your patience and good behavior will help our hunt continue for years to come!
